Hong Kong signs agreement with VenetoMiss Mary Chow, Special Representative for Hong Kong Economic and Trade Affairs to the EU, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 27 August with Mr Luca Zaia, President of the Region of Veneto, on strengthening mutual ties and co-operation between the two places. The agreement covers a wide range of areas, including food and wine promotion, economy and trade, science and technology, and tourism and investment promotion. More info.
Hong Kong Film Panorama in Antwerp: 6-26 September 2010Antwerp will be second stop on the Hong Kong Film Panorama's European tour this season. Six films will be shown. Three are 2009 productions, including Ann Hui's latest film, "Night and Fog". There are also three classic thrillers, including "Crime Story", starring Jackie Chan in an uncharacteristically dramatic role. More info
Hong Kong Film Panorama 2010-11 starts in Dublin on 3 August 2010The new season of the Hong Kong Film Panorama will be launched at the Irish Film Institute on 3 August. This is the first time the annual travelling film festival initiated by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Brussels, will be held in Dublin. More info about the programme in Dublin here.

Hong Kong and Ireland sign tax pact - 22 June 2010Hong Kong and Ireland have signed a comprehensive agreement for the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income. The agreement will encourage Hong Kong enterprises to leverage on the success of Irish companies in the areas of technology, research and development, while making it easier for Irish enterprises to tap into the Asian market, particularly the vast Mainland market, using Hong Kong as a gateway. Secretary for Financial Services in DublinProfessor KC Chan, Secretary for Financial Services & the Treasury, is visiting Dublin to promote Hong Kong as an international financial centre. He will sign a tax agreement with Ireland on 22 June, meet with senior officials, including Minister of Finance Brian Lenihan, and speak at a business luncheon organised by the Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office, Brussels and the HKTDC.

Mobile Link Service for HK elderly wins international IT awardA Mobile Link Service for the elderly in HK won the grand prize of the Digital Opportunity Award at the World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA) Global ICT Excellence Awards in Amsterdam on 26 May. The Awards identify the most outstanding ICT users, honouring organisations that have demonstrated exceptional achievement in using ICT to benefit society. More info.
Business seminar in Rotterdam - 10 June 2010The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Brussels co-organised a seminar on Thursday 10 June at the Kamer van Koophandel in Rotterdam. Hong Kong's recent tax agreement with the Netherlands and how Dutch companies can hope to benefit was be one of the topics. Dutch businessman Pieter Remstedt recommended HK as the best place for a regional office or regional headquarters. More info and photos here.
Business seminar in Namur - 9 June 2010The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Brussels and AWEX organised a business seminar at the Cercle de Wallonie in Namur on 9 June. The seminar included a briefing on the avoidance of double taxation arrangements between Belgium and HK and the testimony of two Walloon investors, Mr Jean-Pierre Lutgen, CEO of Ice Watch, and Mr Benoît Dewonck, Sales Director of IP Trade.
