Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development at Venice Biennale
The creativity of Hong Kong people has driven the city’s architectural sector to become one of the foremost in Asia and one of its top creative industries, Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development, Rita Lau, said.
Mrs Lau was speaking at the opening ceremony of the Hong Kong exhibit at the 11th Venice Biennale International Architecture Exhibition in Venice on 12 September. Entitled Fabrica Cultura: Hong Kong in Venice, it features the multiple facets and creativity of the city's architecture and culture in six categories: object, buildings, landscape, city, media and text. Nine groups of local exhibitors, comprising architects, designers, photographers, performers and writers and critics, are showcasing their interpretations of architecture.
The Hong Kong exhibition is jointly presented by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council and the Hong Kong Institute of Architects and will be open to the public until 23 November.
To encourage exchanges and discussions between Hong Kong's creative talent and their overseas counterparts, Mrs Lau hosted a gala dinner for guests including representatives from creative organizations, leading architects and designers of participating countries from the countries participating in the Architecture Biennale.
During her stay she also met with representatives of the Veneto Region Chambers of Commerce and major entrepreneurs' associations.
