15 Hong Kong video artists take part in Barcelona's LOOP festival
'This is Hong Kong' at Casa Asia (28 to 30 May 2009 inclusive)
The moving image has been one of the areas favoured with an intense research in the creative practice of the Hong Kong art scene, and marks a stark difference with that of mainland China, reflecting differences in cultural background and academic training. This is Hong Kong presents a unique visual picture of Hong Kong as it is now, through analyses from video media, providing a fresh snapshot of the development of the territory after the change of sovereignty in 1997.
The 15 participating Hong Kong artists are:
Hung Keung, Kingsley Ng, Silas Fong, Chi Wo Leung, Adrian Wong, Leung Mee Ping, Linda C.H. Lai, Kacey Wong, Chow Chun Fai, MAP Office, Ban Zhang, S.T. Choi Sai Ho, Woo Ling Ling, Howard Cheng Chi Lai and Ip Yuk-Yiu.
Barcelona’s LOOP festival – a benchmark videoart event
After six successful years, LOOP has established an international reputation as a benchmark event for the diffusion and promotion of the best videoart, and as an unmatched meeting point for professionals and lovers of this discipline.
This year’s Festival will explore the relationship between videoart and other disciplines and genres such as dance, cinema, theatre, design and music.
Structured around three core sections - Festival, Fair and Panels - LOOP brings together recent works by the most highly acclaimed video artists and new pieces by up-and-coming creators, as well as recovering some of the most emblematic pieces from the history of video and bringing them to a wide audience.
LOOP Festival involves the whole city, with videos screened in more than 100 venues, from museums to cultural centres and other venues.
LOOP Fair is the first fair specialising in video art, and features more than 40 participating galleries and distributors showing the latest works by international artists.
LOOP Panels brings together distinguished artists, collectors, curators and museum and festival directors to discuss different aspects of conservation, collecting, distribution and new trends in video art.
