Chief Executive strongly objects to German asylum for two bail jumpers - 24 May 2019The Chief Executive, Mrs Carrie Lam, today told Germany's Acting Consul General in Hong Kong, Mr David Schmidt, that she strongly objects to, and deeply regrets, the reported granting of asylum to two Hong Kong residents who jumped bail to flee Hong Kong while awaiting trial on serious charges. Hong Kong films at Far East Film Festival in Udine - 26 April - 4 May 2019Hong Kong films enjoyed a strong presence at the 21st Far East Film Festival (FEFF) in Udine, Italy from 26 April to 4 May 2019. Renowned Hong Kong actor Anthony Wong Chau-sang received the Festival's Golden Mulberry for Outstanding Achievement Award. More info.
Hong Kong films at the Brussels International Fantastic Festival (BIFFF) - 9-21 April 2019The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Brussels is delighted to support the Brussels International Fantasy, Fantastic, Thriller and Science Fiction Film Festival (BIFFF) again this year. Secretary for Justice visits France, Luxembourg and the Netherlands - 11-17 April 2019Hong Kong's Secretary for Justice, Ms Teresa Cheng SC, visited France, Luxembourg and the Netherlands from 11 to 17 April 2019 before proceeding to Austria. During her stay, she promoted Hong Kong's legal and dispute resolution services and called on various courts, government departments and international organisations. More info.
HKETO, Brussels concludes series of Chinese New Year celebrations held around Europe from 31 January to 28 March 2019The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Brussels hosted a series of Chinese New Year events, including two business seminars, in major European cities to celebrate the start of the Year of the Pig. Hong Kong and Australia sign Free Trade Agreement - 26 March 2019Hong Kong and Australia have signed a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and an Investment Agreement covering trade in goods, trade in services, investment, intellectual property, government procurement, competition and other related areas. This is the eighth FTA Hong Kong has forged so far. The others are with the Mainland of China, New Zealand, EFTA, Chile, Macao, ASEAN and Georgia. Hong Kong business seminars in Athens (21 March 2019) and Limassol (28 March 2019)The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Brussels, is organising a seminar in Athens on 21 March in co-operation with SEV and InvestHK on "Business Opportunities in Hong Kong". Deadline for registration is 20 March. HKETO, Brussels is also organising a business seminar in Limassol on 28 March in co-operation with the Cyprus-China Business Association, InvestHK and the HKTDC, on "The Way to Enter the Chinese Market via Hong Kong". Deadline for registration is 25 March.
Hong Kong films at CinemAsia Festival in Amsterdam - 5-19 March 2019With the support of HKETO, Brussels, four recent Hong Kong films were screened at the CinemAsia Festival in Amsterdam, namely Stanley Kwan's First Night Nerves; Li Jun's Tracey, nominated in nine categories in the forthcoming Hong Kong Film Awards (HKFA); Jessey Tang's The Lady Improper, for which Charlene Choi has been nominated for Best Actress at the HKFA; and Mary Stephen's short film, The Memory of Water. Li Jun, Jessy Tang and Mary Stephen will be at the closing ceremony of the festival, with a screening of closing film The Lady Improper. More information and photos.

Greater Bay Area Outline Development Plan promulgated - 18 February 2019Hong Kong has welcomed the promulgation by the Central Government of the eagerly-anticipated Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The Plan clearly supports Hong Kong to play an important role in the development. Hong Kong will focus among others on developing an international innovation and technology hub, expanding the scope of development for sectors in which Hong Kong's strengths lie, strengthening infrastructural connectivity, fostering youth innovation, and entrepreneurship. Hong Kong's Chief Executive, Mrs Carrie Lam, said the Hong Kong SAR Government had actively participated in drafting the Plan. More information.
