Asian Summer Film Festival in Vic, Spain pays tribute to Stephen Chow - 17-22 July 2018

With the support of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Brussels, the Asian Summer Film Festival in Vic near Barcelona (Nits de Cinema Oriental de Vic) is celebrating the career of film director Stephen Chow, for the festival's 15th edition, taking place from 17 to 22 July 2017.

Of the 37 films on the festival's programme, 14 are Hong Kong productions or co-productions, seven of them recent.  Five are being screened in international premiere and one in Spanish premiere. 

The 21 films in competition include seven Hong Kong productions or co-productions, namely:

Raman Hui's first Monster Hunt film (China-Hong Kong, 2015) will be shown as a children's matinée, as will Meow !.  In addition, there will be special screening of Tom Lin's film Starry, Starry Night (Taiwan/China/Hong Kong, 2011).

Last year the festival's theme was the role of women in Hong Kong action movies.  This year's theme, "Fit Asia", sport in Asian action films, was inspired by Stephen Chow's Shaolin Soccer (Hong Kong, 2001).  The inaugural film of the first Asian Summer Film Festival in 2004, Shaolin Soccer will be screened again as the opening film of this 15th anniversary edition.  The four other Hong  Kong films in the Stephen Chow retrospective are:

The festival will also publish a book about Stephen Chow's cinematographic career and will bestow a lifetime achievement award upon the world-famous actor and director.
