With the support of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Brussels (HKETO, Brussels), Hong Kong cinema is well represented again this year at the Sitges 2018 – 51st International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia taking place in Sitges, near Barcelona in Spain on 4-14 October 2018.
The Festival will be showing several films from Hong Kong's vibrant movie scene. Tsui Hark's "Detective Dee and the Four Heavenly Kings" will be screened as one of the films in the Sitges Official Fantastic Selection competition, which comprises the best selection of fantastic and horror genre films of the year. Dante Lam's "Operation Red Sea" will be screened in the Orbita Selection, which places special emphasis on thrillers.
Johnnie To's 2004 film "Thrown Down", which has never been released in Catalonia, is one of seven feature films selected in collaboration with the Catalan Association of Film Critics and Writers.
The Festival will also screen two Hong Kong co-productions, Jizhou Xu's "The Liquidator" and Apichatpong Weerasethakul's "10 Years Thailand", as well as a documentary about Hong Kong cinema, "Category III: The Untold Story of Hong Kong Exploitation Cinema" by Calum Waddell.
Actress and singer Josie Ho will be among prominent Hong Kong film industry guests at the festival. Miss Ho received the Best Actress award at Sitges in 2010 for her role in Pang Ho-cheung's "Dream Home".
Founded in 1968, the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia is a leading fantasy film festival in the world. It also screens films closely related to the fantastic genre, including action and adventure movies and black comedy, with a special emphasis on thrillers.
